I took 3 semesters of Spanish in college, and kept learning on my own on-and-off since then. Now, I am committed to learning, and I practice at least a little bit every day! This is a collection of my favorite resources that I've found for learning the language :)
Anki: This is the absolute best way to memorize vocab. Info on my Anki setup can be found here!
SpanishDict: This is my go-to place for simple vocab translations. I translate a word -> find the most relevant translation -> add it to my Anki deck. It's also great for seeing verb conjugations.
DeepL: For translating sentences, this is a bit better than SpanishDict. I usually come here for more complex or natural-sounding translations.
Chill Spanish Listening Practice podcast: This is an easy, slow podcast with short episodes that each discuss a different topic (e.g. family or music). At this point it's too slow to be useful for me, but it's still a good resource!
Cuéntame podcast: Each episode has a slow segment with some vocab translations, then a faster segment without translations, with the same different-topic-per-episode format as the above. When listening, I just skip ahead to the faster section.
Dreaming Spanish: I liked their A2-level videos when I was first diving into listening practice, but I don't watch this channel much anymore.
Hola Spanish: This channel gives Spanish advice in Spanish. It's solidly in the intermediate skill range and sometimes difficult to keep up with, but it's good practice.
Spanish Boost Gaming: I like this channel because its content is much more fun to watch than the above. I'm a big fan of his Minecraft Let's Play series :) Most of his videos are in the "intermediate" territory, but he has some more advanced-Spanish Let's Plays as well.
iTalki: This is a site where you can pay native speakers of a variety of languages to chat with you over Zoom. I love my teacher Daniela, and lessons can be a ton of fun while also really helping your speaking skills.
Friendship: Make a friend who speaks Spanish natively and chat with them! I found one on a Hispanic trans Discord server, and it's both fun and helpful to text with her!
Just talk to yourself out loud in Spanish: This is part of the reason I'm so much better at speaking than listening in Spanish—I talk to myself in the language while shower, driving, and throughout the day. Literally just commentate your thoughts as you think them, it can be quite helpful!
