I've always loved music. Here, I'll share songs I'm particularly fond of, and explain why I like them so much! There's stuff from classical to Vocaloid to video game tracks, so maybe there'll be something for you here :3
Songs appear in no particular order. Also a warning that some of these descriptions may get a bit repetitive, since the aspects of songs that make me like them tend to be pretty consistent.
Pathological Facade by GHOST
At the time of writing, Pathological Facade is my favorite song. It was introduced to me by a dear friend, and I instantly fell in love. The melody is just SO GOOD, and it's so fun to dance to! And the 7/4 time signature gives it so much character. I hadn't heard of the Kasane Teto voice before, but she's used so well here. Fun fact, for about a year after being introduced to this song, I thought Teto was a character created by Ghost, who made the song. Oopsie!
Worry Cat by LiteralHat
Worry Cat is an incredibly catchy song. I haven't totally dissected what I think it's about, but being a victim of capitalism is definitely a huge theme. A little cat feeling beaten down by the world of Work? Hell yeah, that's me. Easily one of my favorite songs.
Waltz in A-flat major, Op. 34 No. 1 by Chopin
This is a performance of my absolute favorite classical piece, Op. 34 No. 1 by Chopin. This song was the first demo song of an electric piano we used to have, so it's pretty nostalgic to me—it's also just a beautiful piece, plain and simply. It's so cheery and upbeat, it makes me happy to listen to. I like this particular performance because of Wunder's clear passion for piano. He puts so much love into this performance, and it shows on his face to an almost comedic level. Absolutely worth a full watch-through.
The Machine by Lemon Demon
Lemon Demon is my favorite artist, and The Machine is a contender for my favorite song of his. The melody is incredibly catchy, his voice is always very nice, and the lyrics feel very meaningful. This song seems to be about (spoiler) art as a whole, and how people often try and give it meaning when there doesn't have to be any, and sometimes assuming that things they don't understand are dangerous. Very good song.
South Province (Riding) from Pokémon Scarlet/Violet
This is my favorite song from my favorite Pokémon game. The OST of Scarlet/Violet is simply incredible. The South Province Riding theme gives such a sense of adventure, freedom, and optimism. It includes the OST's iconic motif at its climax, which is just so beautiful. One of my favorite songs in any video game.
Tiny Little Adiantum by ShibayanRecords
This is Tiny Little Adiantum, a remix(?) of a Touhou song. This song is so calming to me. It's so pretty, so soft, and just makes me so happy to listen to. The soft instrument noises, the tiny quiet vocals, the cozy instrumental sections, it's all just perfect to me. One of my current favorite songs easily.
Fly in My Room by Kerrin Connolly
Kerrin Connolly is an artist I have a huge soft spot for, and this is her most famous song (and one of my favorites). It's so silly and so catchy. I fondly remember the day when a close friend of mine showed it to me, and it grew on me so much over time.
Racing into The Night by YOASOBI
This is 夜に駆ける, or Yoru ni Kakeru, or "Racing into The Night". I found this song via the Geometry Dash level Kuzureta, and immediately fell in love. It's such a beautiful song and so ridiculously catchy. Ikura has such a nice voice.
Don't Be Afraid by Kerrin Connolly
This song and Fly in My Room are constantly battling for the title of my favorite Kerrin Connolly song. I love the instruments in this song so much, and I really appreciate the different possible interpretations of the lyrics. It's also so good for dancing to. And the chorus' melody? Fantastic.
Be My Guest by Azari
The friend who showed me Fly in My Room also introduced me to Be My Guest. Apparently this song is super enhanced by IEMs, but it's still really unique and catchy without them. Love those high notes :3
Would You Be So Kind by dodie
This is just such a lovely, sweet song. It's a love song that doesn't say "fall in love with me now!" like so many others—it just says "hey, it would be really nice of you if you fell for me?" which I think is adorable. Such a nice melody, and Dodie's voice is so pretty here.
Devil Town (Live at Hoxton Hall) by Cavetown
The main version of Devil Town is very high-energy and upbeat. I love that version, but my favorite version is this live one—it's slower, a little more bittersweet and somber, and incredibly pretty. I really love the slow, soft bridge section here that isn't in the main version.
Lifelight from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Smash Ultimate is one of my favorite Nintendo games, and all the song remixes (and original songs!) made for it are so expertly crafted. This is just my favorite of them, the main theme. Very pretty lyrics with a great melody.
Whipped Rainbow Bowl from Hello from the Magic Tavern, by Jenny Owen Youngs
This is a song that was made for the podcast "Hello from the Magic Tavern" by a guest on the show (great podcast by the way). The song was never officially uploaded on its own, so I clipped it out of the episode for my own listening. I'm so glad to have found it—been listening to it for years. The lyrics are about the incoming reign of the evil Dark Lord (or DL) in the podcast's story's lore. It's a bit depressing, but there are some comedic elements too. This is a very special song to me.
Alpha by C418
Alpha was introduced to me by one of my best friends during a meaningful car ride, where we sat in silence and listened to the whole thing. This song brings me so many powerful emotions, and I only listen to it a couple times a year to ensure that specialness is maintained. The best way to listen to it is by putting on headphones and closing your eyes—it really is an emotional journey. Let yourself ride it out. To me, Alpha is about acknowledging that my childhood is behind me, and that I should cherish those memories as well as the present, while looking optimistically to the future.
Not Alone from The Amazing Digital Circus, by Gooseworx and Evan Alderete
When this song played at the end of episode 2 of The Amazing Digital Circus, I teared up. It's such a beautiful song at such a beautiful moment in the show, and is easily one of my favorite songs from this OST. Those strings, man, they get to me.
Digital Hallucinations by OR3O
This is just one of many TADC fan songs that I love—but among all of the songs that feature all the real voice actors, this is my favorite. It's so well composed, and hearing the catchy melodies sung by the actual TADC voice actors is so special. Lizzie Freeman (the voice of Pomni) especially is such a phenomenal singer.
Aria Math Synthwave Remix by The Dominator (original by C418)
Aria Math is one of my favorite songs from the Minecraft OST, and this synthwave remix is phenomenal. I have a good memory with this song, my friend playing it in her car and me desperately trying to figure out where I knew it from, because I knew that I knew it but I just couldn't remember where from. Listening to this song always fills me with emotions I can't quite describe.
Archaeopteryx by Lemon Demon
This is one of my favorite Lemon Demon songs, and is definitely my favorite from Dinosaurchestra, his first album. I have ideas of what it may be about, but I still don't have it all pieced together. It's very clear to me that it's a meaningful song. I could just look up what it means, but that would take away some of the appeal. The lyrics and melodies are quite pretty, it's a soft song.
Comedy from INSIDE, by Bo Burnham
Bo Burnham's INSIDE is simply a masterpiece, and this might be my favorite song from it. It is so unbelievably catchy. The bridge sections ("if you wake up in a house that's full of smoke...") are slower and feel more meaningful, and I never mind when they get stuck in my head. I also love the build-up to the chorus ("And I wanna help to leave this world...")—very very fun to sing and listen to. The lyrics/themes are obviously satirical, portraying an influencer who wants credit for making the world a better place without actually putting in any work. It's an interesting and unique concept.
Happy Place by ZAMination
This is another Digital Circus fan song I adore. It is incredibly catchy, all the real voice actors sing it, the animation is really impressive, and it's just so much fun to listen to. I just wish it were a bit longer; as far as songs go it's a bit short.
Jesus on the Telephone by Machinery of the Human Heart
This song is an incredible earworm. Marvin has a great voice, and the melody is super memorable. Thing song once got stuck in my head for a week straight. The lyrics are very silly (/pos), they're super well-written. My favorite Machinery of the Human Heart song :)
Still into You by Paramore
This is definitely one of the most famous songs that I'm really into. The melodies—especially the chorus melody—are so, so catchy. The chorus has such a great intensity that I always want to dance to. I don't have as much emotional attachment to this song as some others on this page, but it's simply too catchy to leave out.
Tem Shop (Undertale Remix) by Ben Briggs (original by Toby Fox)
I don't listen to this song much anymore, but in 7th grade, I was super into it. I've never been into Undertale, but this Tem Shop remix just did it for me. It's nostalgic, but still hits kinda hard sometimes, so I figured I'd include it here :)
The Land of Chocolate from The Simpsons, by Alf Clausen
I don't watch The Simpsons—but while perusing clips of the show on YouTube, I found the famous "Land of Chocolate" scene, backed by this phenomenal orchestral track. It portrays the daydream sequence so well, but is wonderfully whimsical on its own. I wish the original song audio was available.
Play Pretend by jomm
This was another song recommended by a friend. The melody is just... perfect. The chorus gets stuck in my head for days on end and I don't ever complain. There's also some interesting sounds throughout that I quite like. Zero complaints <3
Artificial Heart by Jonathan Coulton
Wonderful melody, wonderful background instruments, wonderful lyrics. What more do you need? Another Jonathan Coulton banger.
Abyssal Storm by lexycat
I'm not a huge breakcore fan, but the more intense parts of Abyssal Storm represent everything I do like about it. The slower parts feel so emotionally potent, and the soft piano is so nice. The original source of this song is here :)
Birthday (Alligators and Pretzel Makers) by Lemon Demon
Birthday is such a soft, gentle song. It's comforting to listen to, and it's so good at making me smile. It seems to be a simple song about trying to find a good gift for somebody you care about, which is a very sweet premise. My headcanon is that the song itself ends up being the birthday gift, which is a lovely thought. Good work, Lemon Demon <3
Route 201/202 Daytime from Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum
This song is the epitome of nostalgia. Absolutely no song in the world brings me back to the best parts of my childhood more than this song. I have such good memories of playing Pokémon Platinum and other main-line games as a kid, and to me, this song represents all of that. It's simply beautiful.
Treasure Town from Pokémon Mysery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky
It is difficult to put into words how much this song means to me. It is a gorgeous, nostalgic song from my very first introduction to the Pokémon games. When listening to it, memories of playing this game as a kid bring such a big smile to my face. The game is lovely, with a complex story and loveable characters, and its entire soundtrack is just beautiful.
It's Been So Long by The Living Tombstone
This has been one of my favorite songs for a while, but I only learned that it's a FNaF fan song just now. I didn't love learning that, because it made the song go from cool and mysterious to... well, a FNAF fan song (I never listened to its lyrics very closely). All that being said, it's really good. The singer has a lovely voice, and the melody is phenomenal. I find myself humming it to myself all the time. It just sounds exceptional, regardless of its origins, and I can't bring myself to disregard it.
